Forum to highlight the latest EU Air Quality Regulations

24 Jan, 2025

The Air Quality Forum 2025 in Brussels, hosted by Palas GmbH on the 26th and 27th of February 2025, will focus on the New European Air Quality Directive and its implications. Participants will have the opportunity to learn all they need to know about  Directive (EU) 2024/2881, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council last October, which addresses ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe within the framework of the Green Deal. The forum will examine the reasons for the directive, its most recent amendments, and adjustments, highlighting the critical role of public awareness in achieving air quality goals. Discussions will cover the legal consequences of non-compliance, as well as the challenges member states, regions, and cities face in implementing the directive, including issues like transboundary pollution and the impact of natural resources.

A comparative analysis of air quality regulations from other regions, such as Asia, will focus on the differences in approaches to air quality management. The forum will also examine the relationships between air quality, public health, ecosystems, and biodiversity, with a special focus on the medical effects of air pollution, its impact on biodiversity, and the social dimensions of pollution exposure. The consequences of air quality management, including the implications for urban planning, traffic control, and public heating systems, will be analysed along with the financial costs of implementing new measures. Attendees will also discover the innovations and technologies required to meet stricter air quality standards, such as advances in monitoring systems and hybrid networks integrating remote sensing, sensor grids, and stationary monitoring.

The forum will include discussions on emerging trends and future developments in air quality management, while highlighting notable examples of innovative solutions from various regions and cities. The necessity of new technological standards and the role of hybrid monitoring networks will also be examined. The Air Quality Forum 2025 will bring together environmental scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, public health professionals, and advocacy groups to exchange knowledge, discuss challenges, and shape the future of air quality standards.
