Leak detection
Precise leak detection is essential for protecting water pipelines, as undetected failures can lead to resource loss, energy inefficiency, and environmental harm. INFICON’s Sensistor® XRS9012 addresses this issue by using hydrogen tracer technology in a portable, field-ready platform designed for utility technicians and infrastructure managers.
By introducing a forming gas (5% hydrogen, 95% nitrogen) into pipelines, the system detects leaks with sensitivity down to 0.7 ppm H₂ in air. The device responds in less than one second and recovers quickly, allowing continuous measurement and high data reliability during extended testing campaigns. Its advanced selectivity ensures that hydrogen signals are clearly distinguished from background gases, supporting precise localisation in complex field conditions.
Encased in a sturdy IP55 aluminium housing, the XRS9012 blends durability with ergonomic usability. Extended battery life, rapid charging, and customisable sensitivity optimise uptime, while built-in diagnostics support measurement accuracy.
The XRS9012 is an ideal tool for monitoring water pipelines, wastewater systems, and other utility networks, where accurate leak detection improves sustainability, safety, and predictive maintenance strategies. Future applications may also extend into the hydrogen economy.
