Reliable water analysis starts with the whole workflow

27 Oct, 2026

For environmental and energy laboratories, IGNIVIUS TOC/TNb analysis and LNI Zero Air generation bring two important parts of the laboratory setup into one conversation with Velaris.

Environmental and energy laboratories work with widely varying water matrices, from drinking, surface and groundwater to wastewater, cooling water, condensate and process streams. Reliable results depend on more than the detector: sample transfer, NPOC pretreatment, throughput and the gas supply all matter in day-to-day work.

Created by Skalar and TRACE, IGNIVIUS combines decades of combustion-based TOC expertise with technologies developed for modern laboratories. High-temperature catalytic combustion and NDIR detection measure carbon, with optional chemiluminescence detection for TNb. The analyser supports TC, TIC, TOC, NPOC, POC and DOC.

Sample handling is central to reliable TOC analysis. Direct injection transfers the sample into the combustion zone through a short flow path. This supports particle-bearing and low-volume samples while helping reduce clogging and carryover. IGNIVIUS accepts particles up to 800μm.

Every sample behaves differently. Smart Sparging checks residual inorganic carbon after NPOC pretreatment and adjusts sparging time when needed. This sample-responsive approach helps deliver reproducible NPOC results and documents pretreatment effectiveness.

While one sample is measured, the next is acidified and sparged. This parallel workflow can increase throughput by up to 50 per cent. Integrated inline dilution handles over-range samples and working-standard preparation without dedicated dilution positions. The autosampler holds up to 170 8ml vials, supporting long unattended runs. An integrated LED indicator shows instrument status at a glance.

For laboratories seeking convenient point-of-use gas production, IGNIVIUS can be supplied with an LNI ZA TOTAL C Zero Air generator. Its integrated oil-free compressor and multistage purification system remove hydrocarbons, moisture, CO₂, CO, NOx and SO₂ from ambient air. Available in different flow capacities, it provides a practical alternative to gas cylinders, helping reduce handling and support a continuous supply of clean zero air.
