New combustion-based analyser combines direct injection, automated NPOC pretreatment and high sample capacity for efficient water and environmental analysis.
Environmental laboratories routinely analyse samples ranging from relatively clean water to wastewater and other complex matrices. Maintaining reliable Total Organic Carbon (TOC) results across these different sample types, while processing increasing sample volumes efficiently, can place significant demands on both analysts and instrumentation.
IGNIVIUS, the new combustion-based TOC & TNb analyser from Velaris, has been developed to address these practical laboratory challenges. Developed through the combined TOC expertise of Skalar and TRACE, the analyser combines proven combustion technology with intelligent automation to simplify routine analysis and reduce operator intervention.
A key feature is Direct Injection Technology. By injecting the sample directly rather than using a flow-through injection principle, IGNIVIUS has a simplified sample path. This improves particle handling and reduces the risk of clogging and sample carryover, particularly relevant when laboratories need to process diverse environmental and wastewater samples.
For Non-Purgeable Organic Carbon (NPOC) analysis, IGNIVIUS introduces Smart Sparging Technology. During pretreatment, inorganic carbon (IC) must be removed before the remaining organic carbon is measured. Instead of relying only on fixed pretreatment parameters, IGNIVIUS verifies IC removal for the sample and automatically adjusts acid addition and sparging time when necessary. This helps analysts achieve reproducible NPOC results even when sample composition varies.
Efficiency is further improved by performing NPOC pretreatment and measurement in parallel. While one sample is being measured, another can already be prepared for analysis. Integrated inline dilution also reduces manual preparation steps and allows analysts to perform calibrations from a single stock solution.
For laboratories processing high sample volumes, IGNIVIUS accommodates up to 170 samples using 8 mL vials, supporting extended unattended operation. A clear LED status indicator provides an immediate overview of instrument status, even from across the laboratory.
IGNIVIUS supports TC, TIC, TOC, NPOC, POC and DOC analysis, while an optional TNb module with chemiluminescence detection (CLD) adds Total Nitrogen analysis.
