Air quality monitoring

Ocean Optics miniature spectrometers are widely used for remote gas analysis including the analysis of volcanic plumes, hazardous pollution and airborne toxins. With a range of spectrometers covering the deep UV range down to 155 nm and extending out into the NIR and SIR, our systems are useful for analysing and monitoring airborne substances such as Ozone (O3), Sulphur dioxide (SO2), Benzene (C6H6), Ammonia (NH3), Nitric oxide (NO) and Nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
For example, Ocean Optics products played a big role in monitoring the air quality during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Ocean Optics and a systems integration partner were selected to provide solutions for monitoring air quality from both fixed and mobile platforms. This included monitoring systems to continuously measure large factory emissions; car exhaust monitoring systems at traffic lights, along main highways and at toll booths; and large scale atmosphere monitoring stations that were deployed around the city. The air monitoring systems (from DOAS systems to quantify the total emission of air pollutants to NIR systems to test the CO and CO2) provided reliable and timely measurements on the various sources of atmospheric pollution and contributed to the great success of the Olympic Games.
