The future of a property development in Bromsgrove hangs in the balance after residents voiced their concerns that it could lower air quality in the area.

Bromsgrove District Council has revealed a project which would see several hundred new properties built on the edge of the village of Hagley, as well as two smaller developments.

However, the Bromsgrove Advertiser has revealed that many residents are unhappy about the proposals, saying it would bring "catastrophic" disruption to their village.

Chairman of the Hagley Parish Council Steve Colella told the publication: "There has been no regard paid to the poor air quality already caused by in excess of 400,000 vehicles that use the A457 through Hagley every week."

He added that residents need to ask whether they want a "small town built on their doorstep", which could exacerbate this problem.

The plans are out on public consultation until March 4th 2011 to allow members of the public to make comments on the initiative.

Councillor Del Booth encouraged locals to take part in the discussion, adding that the developments could have a significant influence on planning policy in the future.
