North Yorkshire has launched a consultation asking the public what they think about plans to improve traffic in the area in a bid to boost the region's air quality.

Earlier this week, North Yorkshire County Council joined forces with Ryedale District Council to release their proposals on how they can reduce congestion in Malton and Norton, as well as encourage more residents to walk or cycle in the areas.

An exhibition will be held tomorrow (March 18th 2011) and Saturday (March 19th) at the Green Man Hotel in Malton to ask locals what they think of the ideas.

North Yorkshire's executive member for highways Gareth Dadd said: "Improving traffic flow as well as air quality and conditions for pedestrians has long been a priority for North Yorkshire County Council."

He added that the local authority welcomes the opinions of residents to ensure that the plans which go-ahead "meet the needs of the community".

Earlier this month, South Yorkshire city Sheffield launched a study to look at how a Low Emission Strategy could help improve air monitoring results in the area.
