The air quality of the capital is set to be given a boost after it was revealed that hybrid buses will be introduced in the city.

Earlier this week, Transport for London (TfL) confirmed funding will be given for 90 new environmentally-friendly vehicles this year.

These will be put in areas of the capital that have high levels of pollutants and come as part of TfL's plans to improve its air monitoring results.

The addition of these buses will bring the total number of green public vehicles on London's streets to more than 200, paid for by the Department for Transport's Green Bus Fund.

London Buses' operations director Mike Weston stated: "London is continuing to lead the way on hybrid buses, with our efforts contributing to the concerted effort to cut the capital's CO2 emissions and pollution."

This comes after TfL revealed that more than 100,000 drivers are now paying the Congestion Charge fee through its Auto Pay system.

It was introduced so that people could automatically pay for driving in the capital, in an attempt to reduce its pollution levels.
