The government has announced its intentions to introduce more green buses in England in order to boost the country's
air quality.
Today (April 6th 2011), the Department for Transport has revealed that £46 million of government funding will be used to put 542 low-carbon vehicles on the road.
Money will be given to local authorities to implement the changes within their agendas so that the buses can be in operation by March 2012.
Norman baker, transport minister, noted that the energy-efficient buses release 30 per cent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventional public vehicles.
"Green buses are therefore an absolute no brainer - they are the perfect combination of targeted investment that help people make the transport choices that are good for society as a whole," he stated.
This news comes just a few days after Transport for London revealed 90 new hybrid buses will be introduced in the capital in 2011, which it hopes will improve the city's
air monitoring results.
