Surrey County Council is to look over the plans to build a waste management facility in Shepperton and assess the repercussions this might have on
air quality in the area.
Proposals have been submitted to the local authority for the recycling facility, which would help produce gas for energy by heating waste, the BBC reports.
Surrey Waste Management is working alongside the council to develop the site, which is aimed at handling 60,000 tonnes of household waste every year.
The plans are currently being considered by the local authority but it will have to take into account the concerns raised by local residents that the emissions released could reduce the
air quality in the area.
Surrey County Council aims to have determined the outcome of the application between February and April 2011, with a proposed construction phase pencilled in for August or September that year to be finished by November 2013.
