A newly formed environmental group in Reading has pledged to reduce the city's carbon emissions this year.
The Reading Climate Change Partnership has announced its intention to cut CO2 output in the area by ten per cent during 2010, the Reading Evening Post reported.
Raising awareness about climate change within the local community is also high on the group's agenda, as well as informing about flood risks and the dangers of rising global temperatures.
It is comprised of officials from Reading Borough Council and the University of Reading, in addition to representatives from businesses, public sector bodies and local communities.
Sally Coble, from the Environment Agency, will chair the organisation.
"Reaching this ten per cent target will require a fundamental shift in the way businesses and people operate," she explained.
"By signing up to the 10:10 campaign, organisations can demonstrate their commitment to environmental improvement," Ms Coble added.
The 10:10 campaign is a national initiative to drive carbon emissions reductions. More than 54,000 people have signed up to the scheme, along with over 2,000 businesses.
