Air quality monitoring
As global regulations for aerosol monitoring continue to tighten, the need for high-precision, dependable instrumentation has never been greater. Compliance with international standards, such as the Particle Measurement Programme (PMP) and Ultrafine Particle (UFP) guidelines, as well as increasingly rigorous vehicle emissions regulations, particularly Euro 6 and the forthcoming Euro 7, requires advanced tools capable of delivering consistent, reproducible results in a variety of demanding applications.
Catalytic Instruments has taken on this challenge with a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance aerosol measurement solutions tailored for the evolving requirements of researchers, regulators, and industry professionals. At the heart of this offering is the Silver Particle Generator (SPG), a robust and stable source of solid aerosols composed of spherical or aggregate silver particles ranging from 2.5 nm to 300 nm. Engineered to provide exceptional day-to-day consistency and high particle concentrations, the SPG is an ideal tool for calibration of Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) in accordance with ISO 27891:2015. It also serves as a dependable reference source for validating PMP systems such as Volatile Particle Removers (VPRs) and Particle Number Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PN-PEMS), as well as in filter and mask penetration testing, emissions and air quality research, and as a seed aerosol generator in laboratory studies.
To further improve accuracy and flexibility in particle manipulation, the SPG is complemented by the S8000 Particle Sintering Device. This system enables controlled thermal treatment of aerosol particles at temperatures of up to 600°C, transforming agglomerated particles into well-defined spherical forms. In addition to reshaping particle morphology, the S8000 supports both thermal and chemical modification of aerosol composition, offering fine control over particle properties critical to specific research or regulatory targets. With adjustable temperature and residence time parameters, researchers can tailor aerosol characteristics with a high degree of precision.
Together, the SPG and S8000 provide a dependable and flexible solution for CPC calibration and aerosol system validation, ensuring compliance with ISO and CEN standards.
