The Welsh minister for environment, sustainability and housing has expressed her satisfaction with recent air quality findings.

Jane Davidson, who leads on climate change and sustainability on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) cabinet, made her comments as figures showed that air quality in the country is now better than at any other point since the Industrial Revolution.

The figures, which cover the period between 1990 and 2007, were published by AEA Energy and Environment on behalf of the WAG and the other government bodies in the UK.

Ms Davidson said that the report is demonstrative of the "significant technological progress" that has been made in recent years, as well as the development of effective environmental regulation and management strategies.

"I am pleased that overall, great progress has been made since 1990 with emissions of the majority of pollutants decreasing by more than 50 per cent," she continued.

Concluding, Ms Davidson asserted that no one can afford to rest on their laurels and said that the WAG will continue to strive to improve air quality.
