New Ice Detection Sensor

Jul 21 2016

Measuring different snow parameters like snow depth, density or snow water equivalent, non- contact and flood-proof discharge monitoring in open rivers and channels or resilient automatic weather stations. SOMMER Messtechnik (Germany) offers a broad range of innovative hydrometeorological and environmental monitoring equipment.

Whether water scarcity or floods, to measure the discharge rate of main rivers, streams or irrigation channels is a key figure, not only for hydrologists. Here SOMMER is a true expert and offers both, wide experience and excellent water monitoring equipment, as for example its innovative radar technology. The sensors measure non-contact and therefore can be mounted outside the river. The system remains free from contamination in the water and is safe from debris or driftwood. Consequently the customer profits from no maintenance and reliable operation even during high water or flooding events where most of the other sensors fail.

The new and intelligent ice detection sensor IDS-10 represents our latest innovation within our product range. It automatically detects icing on the sensor’s surface measuring on a real-time and reliable basis. It can be applied for all the different industries where it is important to be able to detect and measure icing, like wind power stations, aviation and road traffic control, high-voltage power lines or other civil constructions, e.g. bridges, antennas, masts or buildings. To be forced to remove the ice manually or by melting it away through heating systems is not only maintenance intensive but also very costly. The new ice sensor IDS-10 by SOMMER Messtechnik now helps to support the decision making processes of people in charge and reduces the operation risk and costly maintenance work.
