PFAS in water
A single-ampoule certified reference material covering ten linear PFAS compounds aims to cut calibration preparation for water testing laboratories.
Laboratories monitoring water for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) can now source ten linear compounds from one certified reference material (CRM), following the launch of PFAS-10 by Restek.
The mix covers the compounds required and recommended by the Japan Water Supply Act (April 2026). For laboratories testing to that framework, this means a single calibration source for the regulated analyte list rather than several individual standards.
PFAS-10 contains six perfluorinated carboxylic acids: perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA), perfluoropentanoic acid (PFPeA), perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA).
It also includes three perfluorinated sulphonic acids – perfluorobutanesulphonic acid (PFBS), perfluorohexanesulphonic acid (PFHxS) and perfluorooctanesulphonic acid (PFOS) – along with hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA).
Because all ten analytes arrive in one ready-to-use ampoule, fewer preparation steps are needed when building calibration standards. Restek says this reduces complexity and helps laboratories keep their PFAS workflows consistent from batch to batch.
The CRM is formulated in the company’s ISO-accredited laboratories using PFAS materials of more than 99 per cent purity, which Restek says supports confidence at ultralow detection levels. The company also states that the mix has verified composition and stability for a long shelf life, and that its chromatographic performance has been optimised to simplify method development.
PFAS-10 extends Restek’s range of PFAS single standards and multicomponent mixes. The company says the product is in stock and available to ship immediately.
