Scotland Gas Networks is closely monitoring a gas leak which took place in Glasgow city centre, it has been reported.
Not for the first time this week, rush-hour commuters faced delays last night after a major route was closed for more than 24 hours, according to the Scottish Herald newspaper.
Spokeswoman Sharon Miller McKenzie said that the organisation - which is owned by Scotia Gas Networks, the second-largest gas distribution firm in the UK - made the decision to close the city's Argyle Street in order to monitor the leak and make sure that there are no safety concerns.
"We received information a few days beforehand about the leak and then followed our process. That is absolutely normal," she stated.
Ms Miller McKenzie added that all potential effects of stopping the traffic and opening up the roads have been considered.
Meanwhile, according to a spokeswoman for FirstBus, a streamlined approach is needed from all agencies involved in traffic management to minimise disruption when problems occur.
