Durable and precise flow meters offer reliable safeguard to agricultural storage facilities

Mar 11 2022

Titan Enterprises and agrochemical specialists Stored Crop Conservation Limited have enjoyed a fruitful partnership spanning two decades, however time never stands still and Stored Crop have seen considerable changes in their business model and growth. Stored Crop provide a modified application system that extends the lifespan of crops before and after harvest while facilitating clean and fresh storage facilities.

Stored Crop Conservation develop and supply fogging systems to treat crop storage environments, over the last year demand for their crop ‘fogging’ machines has surged across the globe. Nick Green, Stored Crop’s CEO, stated, “Where we are primarily servicing the food packaging industry and major food processing companies in the UK, our fogging machines are now being requested by an international market. This has significantly increased our manufacturing demand, and Titan’s excellent service and response to demand has been a great support.”

Stored Crop’s fogging machines incorporate Titan’s 900 series turbine flow meters to record and monitor the volume of chemical dispensed to safeguard hygiene, health and quality of crops. Their fogging machines are ubiquitous in grain stores, poultry units and glasshouses. Hygiene and pests and fungus control has always been a crucial issue in the storage of bulk crops in agriculture. Today the regulations are ever more stringent, so hygiene starts with the preparation of buildings used for food production and carries on through to mass food stores. Cleanliness is vital to ensure a high level of quality of raw materials; as an example: when potatoes are stored, the precise application of a sprout-suppressing agrochemical extends their lifespan considerably.

Nick Green recalled: “Early on in our operation, we found a sprayer that utilised Titan’s flowmeters. We trialled one of Titan’s measuring devices, working with them to adjust the flow meters to meet our exact requirements. We use both the PVDF and stainless-steel cased mini turbines as they are able to function accurately and reliably with aggressive chemicals where careful control of application volume is absolutely critical.”

Stored Crop’s fogging machines create a very fine mist of the requisite agrochemical, the Titan 900 flowmeters ensure that all of the stored products are treated evenly and with the right quantity of chemical. The durable and chemically resistant Titan flow meters are ideal for use anywhere in the world; they can cope with the wide variety of ‘fogging’ chemicals dispensed through Stored Crop’s devices that comply to each nation’s regulations concerning the chemicals that can be used in these processes.

Neil Hannay, Senior R&D Engineer with Titan Enterprises said: “These turbine flow measuring devices are an ideal low-cost component for OEM applications. The combination of chemically resistant flow meter design and low flow rates to ensure precision measurement is well suited for chemical dispensing or batch-filling systems.”

The 900 series flow meters operate at 6 flow ranges from 0.05 to 15 L/min. The sapphire bearings ensure longevity and reliability, and the different options of body material makes this perfect for metering ultra-pure water and other aggressive chemicals.
