Maintenance-Free Solution for Water Treatment Without Peristaltic Pumps

May 17 2011

A new range of pumps from Nitto Kohki (Japan), are set to push the standards in pumping technology to a new level. These new liquid and gas pumps will be a suitable, reliable solution for a variety of applications. Due to it’s self-priming and dry-running capability, this pump is also suitable for air and non-explosive gases.

While conventional liquid pumps historically use diaphragms which need complex mechanics to operate, the “BIMOR” uses simple Piezoelectric “Bimorph” technology. As a consequence their life time is significantly longer (using water it is said to be more than 50.000 h). A big advantage in comparison to peristaltic pumps is that the “Bimorph” is the only expendable part , so during the whole life time the pump is completely maintenance-free which means there is no need to exchange any wetted parts.

In addition the power consumption of the BIMOR is much lower than that of conventional pumps as well as its very low noise level of under 40 dB(A). The maximum pressure is 180 mbar and the flow rate for water is 220 ml/min. The flow rate is easily adjustable by varying either voltage or frequency.Using the BIMOR pump to introduce the necessary chemical into the process is the simplest solution for phosphate reduction. By choosing the correct version from the Bimor range, Ferric Sulphate or Aluminium Chloride can be pumped without problems. The BIMOR can also be used in water-disinfection-plants, due to its resistance against corrosive chemicals like dilution hydrochloric acid and sodium chlorite. The potential application range is extensive and stretches from medical technologies through computer technology to fuel cells.
