New, advanced water bacteriophage testing solutions

15 May, 2025

Bluephage SL recently launched two new product lines to improve lab efficiency and water quality testing standards by updating its Positive Control Kits, which are now available in two formats: BP1626a and BP1626b. The new kits have been developed for coliphage enumeration, and contain 25 units per box, which is five more than the previous version, thereby offering better value and flexibility. These controls can be purchased by labs separately to optimise inventory management.

The BP1626a kit is for use with the Easy Kit BP1601 (1 ml samples), while BP1626b is tailored for the Easy Kit BP1604 (100 ml samples). Positive controls play an important role in ensuring precision and reliability in coliphage testing; they introduce a pre-defined quantity of the φX174 bacteriophage, which is a globally accepted reference for detecting somatic coliphages. The new kits are compliant with international standard for coliphage enumeration: ISO 10705-2.

Bluephage is also introducing the GR8FHDT and GR8FHD, filterable formats of the GR8 somatic coliphage. The have been created to validate bacteriophage concentration in water testing. These latest developments are compatible with Bluephage's Rapid Kits (BPF-SE, BPF-SPA) and Easy Kits (BP1601, BP1604). They also conform to the criteria of ISO 10705-3, the paramount standard for bacteriophage concentration.

Bacteriophages are often found in low concentrations in water samples, which makes concentration methods vital for precise detection. GR8, when isolated from surface water, is an extremely effective option for environmental testing. Its filterable format simplifies lab workflows and ensures compliance with worldwide water safety standards.

A two-year lifespan with storage at -20°C (GR8FHDT) or -70°C (GR8FHD), the new formats deliver long-term, reliable solutions for water testing laboratories across the globe.
