Flowmeter and SCADA software enhance water conservation efforts

30 Aug, 2024

ABB has integrated its cutting-edge AquaMaster4 Mobile Comms flowmeter with the Topkapi SCADA system, to aid worldwide water conservation. AREAL, the publisher of the Topkapi software platform, has released a communication driver that enables the AquaMaster4 to communicate with Topkapi directly via 4G and the FTP/FTPS protocol.

Topkapi is a globally renowned modular and integrated solution for managing automated processes widely used in water and wastewater. It meets the specific needs of the water industry, supporting the sector with district metering and non-revenue monitoring capabilities, amongst other things.

This technology merger widens ABB’s support beyond its current systems, which includes Symphony® Plus SCADA and System 800xA®, to assist water utility companies in meeting sustainability targets thanks to increased data access.

Krishna Prashanth, ABB Measurement & Analytics Global Product Line Manager for Electromagnetic Flowmeters stated, “ABB has a massive installed base of AquaMaster4 electromagnetic flowmeters globally, by interfacing AquaMaster4 Mobile Comms with the Topkapi SCADA software, we can make an even bigger difference in the markets we serve.”

The newly acquired 4G connectivity to the FTP/FTPS server facilitates improved data transmission; reports and trend analyses created in Topkapi are more detailed and precise. It allows AquaMaster4 to supply near real-time data for smart and accurate water management, including flow and pressure measurement and monitoring of diagnostic alarms.

ABB’s AquaMaster4 is a highly dependable wireless solution for continuous flow measurement. In 2021, it became the first electromagnetic flowmeter with bidirectional connectivity. This provided end users with 60 percent lower power consumption while identifying leaks faster than other solutions on the market. AquaMaster’s previous generation was initially interfaced with Topkapi in 2009 using the 2G SMS protocol.
