Sensor System for Fruit Ripening Applications on Display at Sensor+Test

Mar 17 2015

The gas sensor specialist smartGAS Mikrosensorik GmbH (Germany) will introduce a new sensor system for fruit ripening applications at Sensor+Test 2015, which will be held in Nuremberg, Germany, May 19th - 21st. Integration of the new system into a measurement and control design is very easy and requires no detailed knowledge of gas sensor technology.

The gas sensors are based on infrared absorption technology and measure the concentration of ethylene and carbon dioxide, which are crucial during fruit ripening. Due to their long-term stability and reliability the sensors allow a precise control of the fruit ripening process. High selectivity and minimal cross sensitivities are the main advantages of the new system. The sensors, which are placed in a separate housing, are protected by means of various filter elements. They avoid faulty measurements due to dust or humidity and protect the sensors, even when operating errors of the system occur. The sensors have a short response time and are therefore ideally suited for multiple chamber systems. A RS485 and analogue interface (4...20 mA) enable integration in all common PLC and control architectures.

With this new system smartGAS enables customers, who have limited knowledge on gas sensing technology, to realise an easy and safe solution for their applications.
