Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the world's most demanding environments for gas detection. Highly specialised process gases, complex production facilities and uncompromising safety requirements demand monitoring solutions that combine accuracy, reliability and seamless system integration.

This was exactly the challenge GfG set out to address when developing the D‑ReX gas monitoring platform. Drawing on more than 65 years of experience in industrial gas detection, the goal was to create a flexible solution capable of meeting the unique requirements of semiconductor fabs while bringing together the strengths expected from a modern gas detection system.

From the beginning, D‑ReX was designed as a versatile platform. Depending on the application, gases can be monitored directly at the point of use, remotely using sensors installed hundreds of metres away, or by actively sampling gas from cabinets, ducts and other enclosed spaces. Standard communication interfaces, including analogue 4–20 mA, Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, enable straightforward integration into plant control systems.

As the platform entered the market, another interesting development began to emerge. Working closely with customers, GfG engineers discovered that the same capabilities developed for semiconductor manufacturing could solve gas detection challenges in many other industries.

Today, D‑ReX is used not only in semiconductor facilities, but also in laboratories, metal processing, industrial manufacturing, critical infrastructure and many other applications. Depending on the sensing technology selected, the platform monitors toxic gases, oxygen, combustible gases, carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds. Typical examples include highly specialised gases such as silane, phosphine, germane, arsine, hydrogen fluoride, TEOS and nitrogen trifluoride, alongside many other challenging industrial gases.

One of the latest examples is the continuous monitoring of bromine in swimming pools, spas and water treatment facilities. It demonstrates how a platform engineered for one of the world's most demanding industries can also provide an effective solution to entirely different gas detection challenges.

Every gas detection application starts with a challenge. Sometimes it involves an uncommon gas. Sometimes a difficult installation environment. Sometimes both. These are exactly the situations where experience, application knowledge and a flexible platform make the difference.
