Raising awareness of green energy and promoting investment in wind turbines is the agenda of this year's Wind Week.

Spokesperson for wind energy company SIAC Mick Kelly has made an effort to dispel the myths around wind energy in an attempt to encourage companies to invest in wind turbines as part of Wind Week 2010.

He said: "We're targeting small businesses, farmers and domestic consumers. The new Feed in Tariffs are available to anyone with a suitable site. It's a good investment with medium to short-term payback time."

As part of this promotion, SIAC installed a 13.5-metre wind turbine in Leicester Square on June 14th.

Earlier this week, the European Wind Association released statistics which revealed that wind turbines accounted for 39 per cent of energy generating plants installed in the European Union (EU) in 2009.

It also predicted that in 2010, there would be a 13 per cent increase in turbine installations, implying that the EU could have a capacity of producing 85 gigawatts of wind energy.
