The use of windfarms to produce energy is going to be key to the UK delivering renewable power in the future, it has been suggested.
Speaking at the RenewableUK Offshore Wind 2010 event earlier this week, chief executive of the renewable industries body RenewableUK Maria McCaffery urged the government to invest more money into offshore windfarms.
She said: "Offshore really is, without a doubt, set to play a central role in providing our future power, but delivering on this extraordinary potential is definitely not going to be easy."
Over 1,500 people attended the event to listen to speakers, including secretary of state for energy and climate change Chris Huhne.
Ms McCaffery added that while the government has stated its commitment to offshore windfarms, there is "no clear indication" of what actions it will take.
Last month, Wind Week 2010 took place, which saw the installation of a 13.5-metre wind turbine in Leicester Square to raise awareness for the green fuel.
