The UK has located its most green resident, according to reports.

Joan Pick, a 67-year-old pensioner, revealed that she has only used transport twice within the last 17 years and walks or runs to wherever she needs to go.

She was taken to hospital via ambulance in 1991 and used a hearse for her mother's funeral in 1992.

Ms Pick also has not been on holiday for 30 years, does not heat her home and only eats food that does not require cooking.

The carbon-conscious Brit stopped using public transport in 1973 when working as a scientist advising the energy sector on efficiency and decided over-consumption of resources was unnecessary and wrong.

"I have to experiment with the energy efficient lifestyle to prove it's survivable," she explained.

Further UK environmental news came from the British Environmental Agency last week, which announced that figures show less rubbish went to landfill last year than it did in 2001.
