The travel industry should take more responsibility for the effects of airplanes on the environment, an expert has said.
Managing director of Carbonfootprint John Buckley spoke out about the impact companies could have in reducing carbon emissions if sustainable travel was more accessible to holidaymakers.
He said: "There's certainly a movement out there to reduce carbon omissions I think it's got to be the responsibility of the travel companies to educate people."
His comments follow a recent announcement from ABTA - The Travel Association that it will begin a plan to outline each of its member's roles in building a sustainable future for the travel industry.
Its intentions are to produce a sustainable industry with quality products that people will invest in for the future.
Mr Buckley added that offsetting carbon emissions is one method that airlines could use to help the environment but there are many other ways to encourage sustainable travel that the sector should use, including building aircraft that produce lower carbon emissions.
