A landfill site in Salem, US, has been left feeling the effects of a recent storm.

Marion County Public Works Department and Environmental Services has offered local residents the chance to deposit debris generated by the storm at Brown's Island Demolition Landfill for free, the Statesman Journal reported.

Royce Young, supervisor of the site, commented: "The recent snow and ice storm has resulted in an extraordinary amount of damaged tree debris. We hope to relieve some of the burden to residents by providing this free collection event."

All waste collected by the site will then go on to be broken down and made into compost.

The recent storm was the worst Marion County has experienced in 40 years, the news provider informed.

In related news, the National Audit Office of the UK has stated that decisions on meeting EU landfill regulations in the country are taking too long and resulting in added costs for local councils.
