People could have a big impact on the environment by making simple changes at home, an expert has suggested.

EDF Energy and the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College have released a study which revealed that people in Britain are not as concerned about climate change as those in other European countries.

Professor Nigel Brandon, director of Energy Futures Lab, suggested that the public could have an influence on reducing the effects of climate change by making small changes to their lifestyles.

He said: "People's impact on the environment is captured in their choices about their consumption of energy in the home."

The study showed that out of ten European countries, the UK was ranked number six at becoming a truly sustainable nation.

It also revealed that 29 per cent of Brits consider climate change to be a serious problem, ranking ninth out of ten countries.

Zero Carbon Britain 2030 recently released a report which showed that a 50 per cent reduction in heat and electricity demand could be reached if all of Britain's un-insulated cavity walls and lofts were insulated.
