A new PC recycling company has been launched in the north-west.

According to the Bolton News, Weeereco Ltd aims to "take advantage" of government regulations to prevent PC and IT units being sent to landfill sites.

The company deals in the recycling of components such as circuit boards, cables and microchips.

Neil McMillan, one of the firm's directors, said government regulations are now very strict, leaving many businesses and households unsure of how to dispose of their old equipment.

"There are ten categories in the government WEEE regulations and we predominantly deal with category three equipment which covers telecoms, including circuit boards, mobile phones, IT and computers, general IT infrastructure and data equipment," he commented.

Copper, lead and glass are recovered, while some plastic parts are used to make new PlayStation chairs.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen County Council last week announced plans to clean up several contaminated landfill sites in the area.
