Manchester Airport has unveiled several new Recycle Zone areas, similar to those seen in hospitals, shopping centres and theme parks.

Developed by Coca-Cola Enterprises and the Waste and Resources Action Programme, the Recycle Zone scheme aims to boost environmentally friendly waste disposal in public places, Lets Recycle reports.

Sue Hodnett, environmental advisor at Manchester Airport, said the initiative will help the airport to take advantage of the public's heightened awareness of recycling.

"We're extremely excited to launch Recycle Zones at Manchester Airport. We have always been enormously proactive in promoting the recycling of materials throughout the airport and we are sure that as the first airport to adopt this initiative, it will be a successful collaboration," she added.

As part of the scheme, 125 recycle bins will be installed at various locations throughout the airport.

The airport recently launched a feature on its website enabling passengers to offset their carbon emissions.
