Commercial landlords are set to give greater
environmental analysis on the sustainability of their buildings, it has been suggested.
According to Ian Fletcher, director of policy (real estate) at the British Property Federation, more businesses are likely to pay attention to making their properties greener.
He stated: "We are just starting to see the environmental performance being reflected in valuations of buildings."
Mr Fletcher added that more firms are going to take sustainability issues into consideration "or they won't be the best performing businesses in our sector".
The property expert added that real estate owners are likely to improve their buildings in an attempt to meet "tight" social responsibility targets.
This comes after King Sturge released its European Property Energy & Sustainability report last month, which outlined the importance of encouraging companies to improve their carbon footprint by creating a new framework for measuring the energy performance of the built environment.
