Greenpeace activists were tried in Sweden for trespassing on a nuclear plant at the same time as the construction of nuclear reactors was approved.
At a court hearing, 27 out of the 29 environmental demonstrators were tried for being on the Forsmark power plant near Stockholm illegally on Monday (June 14th).
At the same time, the Swedish parliament approved the building of new nuclear devices to replace the existing ones, which had been built in the 1970s.
Greenpeace spokesperson Ludbig Tillman said: "The members of parliament show they do not take the environmental risks posed by nuclear power seriously."
The activists were protesting against the new reactors, with Green Party spokesperson Maria Wetterstrand adding that the increased production of nuclear power would cause "100,000 years of consequences for future generations".
Last month, Greenpeace demonstrators were arrested for scaling BP headquarters after criticising the oil company over its response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on April 20th.
