A new report has claimed that the views and opinions of farmers on how soil can play a part in climate change are being ignored.
The claim was made by the concluding report of a senate inquiry in the US, reported the Weekly Times Now.
According to the paper, the committee was "alarmed by the apparent lack of coordination and focus" exercised on behalf of the government to address climate change.
It continued: "The committee is disappointed that, at times, it appears that the scientific community and the government take a dismissive view of adaptation and mitigation possibilities which have strong support in the agricultural sector."
When it comes to investigating the relationship between carbon and soil, the report also called for maximum collaboration between farmers and researchers.
In the Middle East this week, a major project got underway in Iraq, which aims to make farmland made infertile by overuse become productive again by draining high volumes of salt from its soils.
