The government has been called to introduce new environmental legislation to provide a Green ISA allowance as part of the next Budget.

UKSIF has highlighted the importance of green investments by alerting the government to research, which reveals that more than 13 million adults in the UK would put money in a Green ISA over the next year.

The findings, from YouGov for National Ethical Investment Week, also showed that 52 per cent of investors would finance renewable energy.

UKSIF's chief executive Penny Shepherd said: "We should build on the growing desire among consumers to make money and make a difference with their savings and investments."

She stated that the change in environmental legislation would "engage the public in the climate change challenge".

UKSIF also wants the government to introduce tax breaks for people who invest in their local community.

Earlier this week, UKSIF revealed that 54 per cent of adults in the UK with investments want to make a difference with their money, despite 43 per cent of British adults saying they are unaware that there are green financial products available.
