Environmental analysis has been given on ways to opt for a greener Christmas this year and reduce the amount of carbon emissions released during the period.
According to Nicola Baird, environmental specialist and author, there are a number of things that people can do to ensure they limit their carbon footprint over the festive season.
She gave
environmental analysis to usual holiday practices, such as giving lots of presents and cutting down Christmas trees.
Ms Baird suggested that instead of purchasing gifts, which could have subsequent repercussions for the environment, people make presents such as chocolate truffles.
American website Oppenheim Toy Portfolio also advised giving green toys including wooden cars, solar clocks and eco-houses to children.
Another recommendation from Ms Baird was to have a cardboard cut-out of a Christmas tree instead of cutting down a real one, which would have an impact on carbon emissions in forests.
UK green retailer Nigel's Eco Store also suggested people reduce the amount of time they put their fairy lights on and send recycled or electronic cards to limit the amount of paper used.
