More people could be taking advantage of the government's Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme after an environmental analysis professional suggested to do so before they are axed.

Ian Reilly, business development manager at solar energy equipment firm Beyond Building Solar, recommended people to get the benefits of the FIT initiative at the moment as he stated that the government is considering getting rid of it in April next year.

"The best time to get it is now, while it is where it is. The return on the investment will be better for the customer. Strike while the iron's hot," he commented.

Last week, the government revealed that the FIT initiative will be reduced for solar renewable installations of over 50kW, stating that this will prevent larger companies from overusing the scheme.

Mr Reilly suggested that the government needs to keep the programme going in order to encourage more households and businesses to install solar panels and reduce the amount of energy they use.

He added that this could save the country a lot of money as it will limit the pressure on the electricity infrastructure.
