Environmental analysis shows recycling is on the rise
Feb 10 2011
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has revealed that between July 2009 and June 2010, 40.1 per cent of rubbish was recycled.
This shows an improvement from the figure found between April 2009 and March 2010, which was 39.7 per cent.
Sam Jarvis, head of communications at Waste Watch, said these environmental analysis findings are "welcome news".
However, it was noted that this result could be improved on, with the recycling expert saying: "We'd like to see this figure rising further, because we know that we probably can recycle around 60 per cent of our household waste."
Local authorities could also provide opportunities which encourage more residents to recycle their items, it was added, as well as having a consistent infrastructure across the country so that everyone can reprocess their rubbish in the same way.
