The UK will see an increasing number of people employed in the green technology and energy sector over the coming years, it has been asserted.
Editor of the BusinessGreen.com James Murray commented that as consumers and companies become increasingly environmentally aware, the demand for green products will drive the sector forward.
This will have a knock-on effect as more people are educated about the benefits of green energy and sustainability, he added.
"It is definitely a growth area. If you talk to people in this area, it is one of the few sectors where there are skills shortages," Mr Murray explained.
He also noted that there are a number of things that could be done on a national level in order to encourage businesses to adopt environmentally sound working practices.
Initiatives such as a wider carbon pricing scheme and a drive towards greater energy efficiency were some of Mr Murray's suggestions.
Research released by WRAP in November last year indicated that organisations are beginning to understand the benefits of improved energy efficiency.
According to the survey, 47 per cent estimated that resource efficiency measures had saved or would save them up to £100,000 annually.
