The development of the UK's biggest offshore wind farm was given the green light earlier this week and, according to the British Wind Energy Association, it is a sign of things to come.

Peter Madigan, an offshore wind development manager with the organisation, said he is delighted that the London Array has been given the go ahead.

"Round two is now progressing ahead really well and lining up the round three projects is the next stage of great expansion offshore. By delivering the projects there we can move on to even more, so the future is very bright for offshore wind," he commented.

Once completed, the London Array will generate enough energy to power around 750,000 homes.

The government announced earlier this year that it will give an additional £1.4 billion in targeted support for the low-carbon sector, with £525 million earmarked for offshore wind projects.
