Businesses have been encouraged to look at
environmental analysis of their energy consumption so that they can cut costs on their bills.
Richard Critchley, policy manager for transport, environment and planning at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said more companies are beginning to look at their energy efficiency due to the "soaring" expense of gas, electricity and oil.
However, he noted that companies do not have the same rights as households with regards to their consumption, stating that they need to be "fully aware of their energy use and to carefully monitor bills and meter readings".
Mr Critchley added that Ofgem needs to encourage competition within the energy sector, which would help lower costs and provide support to companies.
This comes after the Confederation of British Industry called on the government to review its Carbon Reduction Commitment, saying changes to the
environmental legislation "adds to the cost of doing business" for many enterprises.
