Businesses need to conduct further environmental analysis into their office equipment and consumer products to ensure that they are energy efficient, according to one opinion.

Euan Murray, general manager of the Carbon Trust Footprinting company, suggested that by investing more money into apparatus that uses less energy this could have "real environmental and economic benefits to businesses".

He stated that there has been a surge in the number of companies who are starting to think about their carbon footprint and energy emissions.

This, Mr Murray suggested, could help them to achieve "environmental best practice and save on the costs of energy".

He added that businesses should work with environmental analysis experts to learn more about where emissions emanate from so that they can reduce this and improve energy efficiency.

Earlier this month, the Confederation of British Industry released a report which called for companies to invest more in reducing carbon emissions with the support from the government.
