Businesses could adopt more energy-saving measures if they are given appropriate support from
environmental legislation.
This is according to David Powell, climate campaigner at Friends of the Earth, who said firms need to be able to gain access to more money so they can invest in becoming energy-efficient.
He stated that businesses are very interested in going green and want to benefit from having a low-carbon economy.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs recently revealed that British companies would be able to save £23 billion collectively every year if they reduce the amount of energy and water they used.
However, Mr Powell said: "[Businesses] don't see enough coming from the government to really convince them that they are serious about it."
Setting up the green bank as a "properly functioning" organisation would help firms, he went on to say, as they will have a "cast iron guarantee" that they will be able to receive investment into energy-saving installations.
