Greenpeace supporters scaled the BP headquarters in London today (May 20th) in response to its treatment of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that occurred last month.

The activists have criticised BP's decisions regarding the containment of the spill in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the oil giant's involvement in green investments.

One of the climbers, Ben Stewart, 36, from London, said: "BP has taken huge risks to pump oil from ever more remote places, while slashing investment in the clean energy projects that could actually help reduce our dependence on oil and beat climate change."

Deepwater Horizon's explosion on April 20th has caused anger among Greenpeace members and other environmental groups after it killed 11 people and caused huge environmental damage, with the oil continuing to spread more than four weeks later.

A BP update today revealed that the company is collecting approximately 3,000 barrels of oil and 14 million cubic feet of gas a day from the sea.
