Birmingham wants to lead the UK in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, it has been reported.
Earlier this week, the Climate Change and Sustainability Cabinet Committee was launched to help Birmingham City Council make a difference to climate change.
Speaking about the new group, a spokesperson for the Department for Energy and Climate Change said: "Birmingham is taking a lead in tackling climate change. Not only will this help to make the city cleaner and greener but will
set an example for the rest of the country to reduce emissions."
The new group will assist the council in achieving its Climate Change Action Plan, which intends to reduce the city's carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2026.
Kris Kowaleski from B Birmingham, a body that deals with climate change strategy, added that the new group will provide a more formal place where members can discuss environmental goals.
The city has already set a positive example, having recently received two green flags from the Audit Commission Comprehensive Area Assessment for tacking climate change and CO2 emissions.
