The
air quality in the North York Moors has seen a significant improvement recently, it has been revealed.
Government data has shown that quantities of ozone dropped on the Moors last year to produce the cleanest air it has seen for more than ten years, the Yorkshire Post reported.
This comes after the newspaper revealed in March 2010 that the park had problems with ozone quantities, making it one of the worst affected places in the UK.
Rachel McIntosh, a member of the North York Moor Parks Authority, told the newspaper that while the levels of ozone are outside of anyone's control, she is pleased with the recent results.
"Those of us who live, work and play in the Moors know how unspoilt it is - if these new figures encourage even more people to come and enjoy this special place, we’d be delighted," she went on to say.
These findings come despite Yorkshire cities Leeds, Bradford, York and Scarborough being declared
Air Quality Management Areas for their high pollution levels.
