Air Quality Monitor highlights London’s NO2 Problem

Staff from Air Monitors (UK) took an AQMesh air quality monitor to London’s High Court whilst ClientEarth launched a new legal challenge against the UK government due to its repeated failure to tackle illegal air pollution.

ClientEarth believes the government is in breach of a Supreme Court order to clean up air quality and the data recorded on the pavement outside the court showed Nitrogen Dioxide levels between two and three times the EU annual mean limit for this toxic gas.

AQMesh is a small, lightweight, battery-powered air quality monitor that transmits readings to a dedicated website. “We were able to show the data to the ClientEarth staff, the demonstrators and the gathered media,” says Stephen Hoskin from Air Monitors. “It was interesting to note that NO2 levels inside a roadside café were relatively low, but as soon as we took the monitor outside, the pollution levels increased markedly.”
