At ILM's Air Quality and Emissions (AQE) event, Rod Robinson of the National Physical Laboratory shared some of his thoughts on why measurement uncertainty is becoming an increasingly urgent issue as Emissions Limit Values (ELVs) are lowered, and how we might go about decreasing uncertainty. In his talk, he covers:

  • Requirements for emissions reporting
  • Structure of emissions monitoring standards in Europe
  • BREFs and lower Emissions Limit Values (ELVs)
  • The evolution of ELVs
  • Some effects of lower ELVs
  • Uncertainty at lower ELVs
  • Assessing the practical performance of methods
  • Standardisation in support of emissions measurement
  • How technicians can access guidance
