Manufacturers can help the UK economy grow by taking advantage of the renewable energy industry, an environmental expert has said.
Voicing support for the impact renewable energy would have on UK industries, a spokesperson from The Renewable Energy Centre has suggested manufacturers could generate high revenues for the economy by switching to green resources.
She said: "Undoubtedly with more renewables being planned and implemented, a new set of skills and manufacturing opportunities come with it which, in turn, can only have a positive effect on the British economy."
Her comments follow a report published yesterday (May 20th), commissioned by the Offshore Valuation Group of government and energy industry organisations, which revealed one-third of the UK's wind, wave and tidal resource could supply the same amount of energy as one billion barrels of oil a year.
Green energy could also reduce CO2 emissions by 1.1 billion tonnes by 2050 and provide enough work to create 145,000 jobs.
Last week, the Department for Energy and Climate change reported that the government intends to reduce carbon emissions from central government by ten per cent over the next year.
