An engineering firm will construct the world's largest 100 per cent biomass-powered boiler in Poland, as Europe continues to look at ways to improve its
air quality.
Foster Wheeler has chosen to adopt technology produced by Emerson Process Management as it builds the Polaniec Power Station for prominent energy supplier GDF Suez.
The system is scheduled to be up and running by 2012 and the project will form part of Poland's overall drive to have 15 per cent of its energy derived from renewable sources by 2020.
European president at Emerson Bob Sharp said innovations such as the Ovation expert control system will be vital in the EU's attempts to become more sustainable.
"Biomass utilisation will play a significant role in Europe's energy future," he remarked.
Earlier this week, the World Wildlife Fund said that introducing mandatory carbon reporting across EU member states would force firms to improve upon their emissions, which would ultimately have a positive affect on the continent's air quality.
