The Environment Agency in partnership with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and Natural Resources Wales have recently awarded NIVUS GmbH (Germany) the Echo Correlation lots for ‘Bed Mounted’ and ‘Fully Integrated’ portable flow measurement instruments as part of their new Hydro Acoustic Framework.

The NivuFlow range of flow meters utilise cross correlation technology to detect real time velocity profiles and then combine these with water depth and cross sectional area measurements to compute accurate volumetric flow rates. The fully integrated PCM 4 flow meters are also ideal for temporary flow measurements when a mains power and communications infrastructure are not available on site.

The framework will operate for an initial 2 years from October 2015 to October 2017, with the option to extend by two further 12 month periods up to a maximum of 4 years.

The principle aims of the Environment Agency and associated partners are to protect and improve the environment and to promote sustainable development. The respective hydrometry teams who have awarded this framework are responsible for assessing the quantity of water in the environment. This includes rivers and streams, groundwater aquifers and lakes where Hydro-acoustic instrumentation is widely used to fulfill this requirement.
